Chancery Notice
In Memoriam: Pope Francis
With profound sorrow and deep reverence, we announce that our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis, was called to the eternal embrace of the Father on 21 April 2025. He served faithfully as the Vicar of Christ on earth, dedicating his life to humility, mercy, and an unyielding devotion to the Gospel.
We give thanks for his steadfast witness to the Gospel, his unwavering dedication to shepherding the people of God, and his life of humble service, love, and wisdom.
The Church begins a solemn nine-day period of mourning. Masses celebrated during the Easter Octave in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, will include in the Prayer of the Faithful a special intention for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis.
A condolence book will be available at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for those who wish to offer their sympathies and pay tribute to Pope Francis. All are welcome to visit and sign the book between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
All churches are encouraged to display a portrait of the late Holy Father as a sign of mourning and a tribute to his enduring legacy. Parishes may also organise public celebrations of the Liturgy of the Hours, Eucharistic Adoration, and other devotional prayers—such as the Rosary—offered for the eternal rest of the Pope’s soul.
We invite all the faithful—individually, as families, and in their communities—to offer heartfelt prayers, uniting with the Church worldwide as we commend his soul to God’s infinite mercy and love.
Eternal rest grant unto Pope Francis, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
